THE MINDFUL MASON

Everyday Working Tools For Staying Mentally Fit

Lodge Presentations

If youʼve got an upcoming meeting and no ceremony to do, I might be able to help. I offer a number of presentations on a range of topics that will (hopefully) entertain and inform. I have a 120" screen and a quality projector to ensure that everyone can see and read the material. I'm based on the western side of Surrey and have a day job but I'm happy to travel if personal circumstances allow!

These presentations can also be given over Zoom to a tiled audience. If you're interested, you can contact me by the form or @TheMindfulMason on Facebook, Instagram and X.

William Hogarth

William Hogarth is one of Britain's most famous painters and printer makers. He was also an enthusiastic Freemason, who really embodied what Freemasonry means - giving time, money and energy to charitable causes and in promoting younger artists.
The presentation details Hogarth's life and also uncovers some of the Masonic symbolism hidden in his work. Based on the excellent book "William Hogarth A Freemason's Harlot" by Jeremy Bell, available at Lewis Masonic.
Time: Approx 40mins
Audience: All Masons

An Egyptian Origin

There are many people who believe that Freemasonry has its origins in the Ancient world, and many links and theories have been proposed.
In this presentation I detail the theory, put forward by an Egyptian scholar, that many of the stories we read in the Bible are based on ancient Egyptian characters. This leads us to a possible identification of the legendary Hiram Abiff and a possible new location for King Solomon’s Temple – the building at the centre of Freemasonry.
Time: Approx 30mins
Audience: All Masons and non-Masons

Unwinding the Second Degree

Often overlooked as an intermediate step between Initiation and Master Mason, in this interactive presentation I take a deep-dive into the ceremony of the Second Degree and explain some important Learning aspects that many are unaware of.
The session includes presentation of the extended versions of 2nd Degree Working Tools and the 2nd Degree Tracing Board in the Emulation ritual. It also includes some discussion on interpreting our ritual in a deeper and more esoteric way.
Time: Approx 70mins
Audience: FC Masons and above

Masonry, Mindfulness & Marcus Aurelius

In this presentation, I go through a few of the ideas given in my book “The Mindful Mason” to provide some tools to help people deal with everyday stress and overwhelm.
This is not a sales pitch for the book! I will bring two copies with me – one for the Lodge to keep and circulate among its members, and one as a raffle prize. The aim is to introduce people to the idea of Mindfulness as a practical tool for everyone.
Time: Approx 30mins
Audience: All Masons and non-Masons

Freemasonry – A Journey of Love

This is my own interpretation of the ultimate destination of the journey of Antient Freemasonry.
In this presentation, I offer a view of how our rituals teach us the important lessons that lead us back to our centre, our true nature – that of Love.
Time: Approx 30mins
Audience: Master Masons and above
